On Sunday, 14 June 2026, Catholics in Bucharest celebrated a significant and joyful occasion — the inaugural feast of St. Anthony’s Church. It was a unique and memorable event, bringing together the faithful in a spirit of thanksgiving, unity, and devotion.

The Holy Mass was celebrated at St. Joseph’s Cathedral, which was filled with joy and prayer. A large number of Sri Lankan Catholics residing in Romania gathered to take part in this special celebration, making it a memorable occasion for the entire community.

""

The Mass was organized by the St. Anthony’s Catholic Community of Romania. The principal celebrant was Rev. Fr. Indunil Janaka Rathna Kodithuwakku, Secretary of the Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue of the Holy See, who concelebrated with Most Rev. Cornel Damian, Auxiliary Bishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Bucharest. This inaugural feast Mass was dedicated to our patron saint, St. Anthony, the protector of all Sri Lankan migrants in Romania.

His Excellency Samantha Pathirana, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Romania, together with his distinguished staff, also attended the ceremony.

""

Rev. Fr. Claude Perera (T.O.R.), Chaplain of the Sri Lankan Roman Catholic communities in Romania, coordinated the occasion, making it truly memorable.

Catholic brothers and sisters, along with our Buddhist, Hindu, and other friends who attended this sacred celebration, also played an important role in making this event a meaningful expression of unity and harmony.

Saturday, 20 June 2026, was a special day for our community. On this day, Rev. Fr. Claude Perera, T.O.R., visited the cities of Iași and Bacău to discuss the establishment of new Catholic communities for the Sri Lankan faithful living in those areas.

""

The parish priests warmly welcomed him and expressed their appreciation for this initiative. They assured him of their support in helping to establish and nurture these new communities.

""

We are truly grateful for the dedication and leadership of Rev. Fr. Claude Perera, T.O.R. We pray that God will continue to bless and guide him in all his efforts and grant abundant success to his ministry.

Sunday, 21 June 2026, was another memorable day for the St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Community. After the Holy Mass, the community gathered for a special meeting with our chaplain, Rev. Fr. Claude Perera, T.O.R.

During the meeting, members reflected on the successful celebration of the parish feast and shared their memories and experiences. Rev. Fr. Claude Perera also appointed the new committee members and entrusted them with their respective responsibilities for the coming year.

""

On the same day, the community bid farewell to Mr. Tharindu, who is leaving Romania to begin a new career in another country. We sincerely thank him for his dedicated service and valuable contributions to our community. We wish him every success and God’s abundant blessings in this new chapter of his life.

On the 28th of June, two members of our community, Roshika Gihani and Amanda Anne, together with Dhananjaya Priyangana, received the Sacrament of Confirmation from the blessed hands of Most Rev. Cornel Damian, Auxiliary Bishop of Bucharest.

""

This is a significant milestone for our community, as it marks the first time that members of our congregation have received the Sacrament of Confirmation. Throughout their journey of faith and preparation, they were blessed with the constant guidance and encouragement of our chaplain, Rev. Fr. Claude Perera, T.O.R., and our senior catechist, Sr. Bridget Madurawala (H.F.).

""

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to our two sisters and our brother on this special occasion. We pray that, strengthened by the gifts of the Holy Spirit, they may continue to grow in faith, bear witness to Christ through their lives, and become mature and committed members of the Church. May God’s abundant blessings be upon them always.
